Traveler looking across a wide mountain landscape
About Field Notes

Curious travelers, thoughtful places.

We are an independent journal for people who believe where you stay can change how you experience a place.

Why we are here

More than a list of nice hotels.

Field Notes began with a simple idea: the best travel recommendations feel like they came from a well-traveled friend. Not an algorithm, not a booking engine, and not a press release.

We cover hotels with character, destinations worth slowing down for, memorable food, and realistic ways to rest. We care about independent spirit, a strong sense of place, warm hospitality, and the small decisions that turn a trip into a story.

“We are less interested in how many stars a hotel has than in how it makes you feel when you step inside.”

How we choose

Every place we feature is selected editorially. We look for substance as well as style: people who care, design that belongs, food with roots, and experiences that respect both guests and their surroundings.

If a stay is hosted, we say so. Our opinions remain our own, and we only publish places we would genuinely recommend to a friend.
